WHAT RISKS IF I SMOKE TOBACCO?
Cancers, respiratory diseases and cardiovascular diseases (related to the heart and arteries) are the main consequences of smoking.

Cancers and tobacco
Tobacco is linked to one-third of all cancers. Every year, several thousand people die in our country because of their smoking.
Lung cancer, the most common.
Cancers of the nasal cavity, mouth, throat, pancreas, bladder, cervix, etc.

Respiratory diseases
Smoking is responsible for the majority of lung diseases called "chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" or COPD. The best known are chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Smokers suffer more from complications related to asthma.
Smoking also promotes lung infections.
Cardiovascular illnesses
Angina pectoris, heart failure and myocardial infarction are more common and more severe in smokers.
Smoking increases the risk of thrombosis, which causes stroke and obstruction of the lower extremity arteries.
Women who combine contraceptive pill use and smoking increase their risk of developing this type of complication.
Other less known consequences of smoking
The daily presence in the blood of several thousands of toxic substances weakens and affects the whole of our organism:

Bones: early osteoporosis, a weakening of the bones that promotes bone fractures, with serious consequences for the elderly.

The pancreas (the gland that produces insulin and regulates blood sugar): a direct effect on diabetes.

The thyroid gland: disruption of function and risk of goitre formation (increased thyroid volume).

Sexuality: harmful action of tobacco on the arteries in general and on the genitals in particular, which can lead to problems of erection in humans. Genital lubrication is decreased in women.

Immunity of the body: Decreased immunity leads to an increased risk of infections.

Fertility: The menopause is earlier, which decreases the fertility of the woman at term. In humans, the quantity and quality of sperm are diminished.
The fetus: During the first weeks of life of the fetus, the formation of organs can be disrupted. The risk of malformations, eg palate (cleft lip), is greater in women who smoke during the first months of pregnancy. Children whose mothers smoked during pregnancy are more likely to develop diabetes later. Smoking (active or passive) has harmful effects on the fetal thyroid gland. We also see that at birth, some babies have a real state of craving because their brain has been impregnated with nicotine during pregnancy.
